Uganda is one of the best destination in East Africa for conventional game viewing. Uganda is not an Africa safari destination to bear comparison with Tanzania or Kenya, or for that matter the majority of countries in southern Africa. It is too small to have any reserves on the grand scale of Tanzania’s Selous or Serengeti, or the Luangwa, Chobe, Hwange, and Kruger national parks further south.
However, its savanna reserves have gradually recovered from the heavy poaching during the 70s and 80’s civil war and political unrest. Welcome to Uganda, the heart of East Africa, where natural beauty meets raw adventure. Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you’ll be warmly received and transferred to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you may choose to explore the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, stroll by the shores of Lake Victoria, or simply relax and soak in the tropical atmosphere that sets the tone for your unforgettable journey ahead.
After breakfast, begin your scenic drive to Kibale National Park, home to one of Africa’s most renowned primate populations. Pass through lush tea plantations, crater lakes, and rolling countryside. Upon arrival, check in at your forest lodge and enjoy an evening nature walk or cultural encounter with nearby communities. Prepare for tomorrow’s close encounter with our closest relatives in the wild.
Today’s highlight is an exhilarating chimpanzee trekking adventure in Kibale Forest. With the guidance of expert trackers, you’ll trek through thick greenery in search of lively chimp families – watching them swing, feed, and communicate in their natural habitat. Later, take a guided walk through the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-run reserve known for its rich birdlife, monkeys, and eco-tourism initiatives.
Depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park, a haven of biodiversity and stunning savannah landscapes. En route, cross the equator and keep an eye out for tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector. After check-in, embark on a thrilling evening game drive, where you may spot elephants, buffaloes, antelope, and big cats. Settle into your lodge with the sounds of the wild all around you.
Start your day with a sunrise game drive followed by an unforgettable boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, where hippos, crocodiles, and elephants gather at the water’s edge. The cruise offers excellent photography opportunities and up-close encounters with wildlife. In the afternoon, explore the crater lakes region or visit the salt pans at Lake Katwe, getting a glimpse of traditional salt mining culture.
Depending on your selected itinerary, either enjoy a scenic drive back to Entebbe or opt for a Murchison Falls extension if time permits.
